Ranee Lee
Known as "Montreal's Queen of Jazz," Ranee Lee is a Juno Award-winning vocalist, actress, and member of the Order of Canada, with a career spanning over 50 years and a longtime faculty position at McGill's Schulich School of Music. Alongside her music, painting has been a lifelong passion, a "parallel universe" of creative self-expression where the movement of her brush mirrors the natural rhythm, harmony, and improvisation of a jazz melody.
In Montreal, her artwork is represented by BBAM! Gallery, where she made her formal collection debut with her solo exhibition, Because You Loved Me. Her paintings are frequently featured in specialized exhibitions, intimate art-and-music showcases, and prominent charity auctions. Lee’s distinct visual portfolio includes her celebrated Jazz Series, which vividly captures the energy of live instrumentation, alongside deeply personal collections that translate iconic musical numbers directly onto canvas.
Minimum increment: $10.00
Artist: Ranee Lee
Medium: acrylic on canvas
Dimensions : 20 × 16 in | 50.8 × 40.6 cm
Year: 2024
Description : Painted in acrylic against a deep black background, Please captures two weathered hands pressed together in prayer, illuminated as if caught in a single beam of light, the left hand belonging to an elderly person, the right to someone younger. This intimate, natural gesture speaks directly to the painting's title, Please.
Devotional and striking in its simplicity, the piece reflects a quiet moment of stillness and hope.
Want a closer look? The artwork will be on display at Pub and resto la Cie Vilandré in North Hatley from August 6th through the 9th during the festival.
Artist / Festival split — The artist and the festival will each receive 50% of the sale price, up to the estimated value. If the final sale price exceeds the estimated value, the North Hatley Jazz Festival will receive 100% of the difference.
