Minimum increment: $10.00
Artist: Ruth Coleman Harding (1930-2008)
Medium: oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 38 × 28 inches (97 × 71 cm) with frame
Year: 1956
Description: The subject in the portrait was the family's beloved housekeeper from the time Ruth’s family lived in British Guiana, South America.
About the artist:
Ruth Harding was born in 1930 in the small mining town of Bwana Mkubwa, Northern Rhodesia, Africa. She grew up in Toronto and spent many years in Montreal raising her children. Ruth had deep roots in North Hatley, where she spent her summers and where her father eventually built a family home for his retirement in the 1950s.
Showing remarkable artistic talent at an early age, she went on to study fine arts at McGill University under the guidance of renowned Canadian artists Arthur Lismer, John Lyman, and John Fox. She became well-recognized for her primary focus on abstract works and portraits. Following her passing in 2008, her artistic legacy is beautifully preserved in a family-published book featuring over a hundred of her diverse works.
Want a closer look? The artwork will be on display at Pub and resto la Cie Vilandré in North Hatley from August 6th through the 9th during the festival.
This portrait is generously offered by Ruth’s son, Eric Harding, a founding member and the Artistic Director of the North Hatley Jazz Festival. 100% of the proceeds from this sale will go directly to support the North Hatley Jazz Festival.
