Michael Thomson
Born in Sherbrooke in 1965 and raised in Montreal, Michael Thomson is a versatile artist with a rich background in decorative painting, plein air work, and mural art. He trained at the Academy of Art of Montreal and studied under Ernst Fuchs, a master of Fantastic Realism in Austria.
Michael's career spans commercial projects for leading brands, private residences worldwide, and features in publications like the Montreal Gazette, Decormag, and Canadian House and Home. For this year's Jazz Festival, Michael also designed a special Miles Davis–inspired T-shirt.
He's also a passionate art educator, hosting workshops and teaching at institutions like Kells Academy, and if you're inspired to pick up a brush yourself, Michael will be leading a plein air class at Manoir Hovey every Saturday in August, starting July 25th (call 1-800-661-2421 to reserve a spot).

Description: A scene from the Festival de Jazz de North Hatley, where a quartet plays from the lakeside bandstand at Dreamland Park under a warm rose-gold evening sky.
Listeners gather in the shade of an old tree, children on the grass, people in sunhat and folding chairs, rendered with loose, atmospheric strokes that lend the crowd an easy intimacy, with a light nod to Bruegel's scenes of village life.
Want a closer look? The artwork will be on display at Pub and resto la Cie Vilandré in North Hatley from August 6th through the 9th during the festival.
This artwork is donated by the artist. 100% of the proceeds go to the North Hatley Jazz Festival.
