Circus Parade
Artist: Nandu Vadakkath
Medium: oil on canvas
Dimensions: 36 × 48 × 2 in | 91.4 × 121.9 × 5.1 cm
Year: 2020
Description: The circus is a captivating, recurring theme in Nandu Vandakkath’s work. In Circus Parade, the artist masterfully creates a sense of whimsical, perpetual motion, where the glowing presence of the moon provides a striking architectural counterpoint to the parade circling endlessly below.
Painted in rich oils on a grand 36×48 inch canvas, this unique, unframed work brings an enchanting, theatrical energy into any space. This wonderful piece joins our auction thanks to a special connection within the festival family. Nandu Vandakkath is a close friend of Nic Côté, the North Hatley Jazz Festival's Head of Operations and social media. It's through this lovely friendship that Nandu's artwork has found its way to us here in North Hatley.
Want a closer look? The artwork will be on display at Pub and resto la Cie Vilandré in North Hatley from August 6th through the 9th during the festival.
Artist / Festival split — The artist and the festival will each receive 50% of the sale price, up to the estimated value. If the final sale price exceeds the estimated value, the North Hatley Jazz Festival will receive 100% of the difference.

Nandu Vadakkath
Born in sunny Kerala, India, in 1961, Nandu Vandakkath’s early life was deeply rooted in nature. His artistic awakening began in 1979 at Benares Hindu University; while there to study communications, he found himself entirely captivated by the world of theater. This passion for drama and narrative structure seamlessly translated into visual art.
Nandu went on to formally hone his painterly craft in the heart of the global art world, studying at the prestigious New York Studio School under the legendary Mercedes Matter from 1989 to 1993. Today, Nandu lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. His striking works beautifully bridge the theatrical bustle of city life with moments of profound, poetic stillness.
