Andrew Paul MacDonald

Appointed to the Order of Canada in 2021 for his lifetime achievements in composition and performance, the works of Andrew Paul MacDonald have won many prestigious prizes, including the 1995 JUNO Award for “Best Classical Composition” for his Violin Concerto No.1. His many compositions have been performed around the globe and in Canada by every major orchestra, chamber ensemble, soloist, music competition, radio network, and opera company. Thirty-five of his compositions have been recorded on twenty albums to date on such notable labels as BIS, Marquis, ATMA, and Centrediscs—and many have won prestigious awards. As a concert guitarist MacDonald completed intensive studies with Alexandre Lagoya. He has premiered a number of works written for him and has been soloist in many concertos, including those by Villa-Lobos, Rodrigo, and his own concerto, Electric Pleasures.
